The Asklepios Clinic Parchim in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is a state-of-the-art hospital providing primary and standard care services, including advanced respiratory and intensive care support. The team in the intensive care unit is committed to delivering patient care in line with the latest clinical standards and remains open to evaluating innovative respiratory therapy solutions.
Prior to adopting the V2 NIV Face Mask, patients undergoing bronchoscopy procedures and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy were ventilated using NIV masks from other manufacturers. During bronchoscopies, we experienced challenges relating to connectivity, limited adjustment options and difficulties adjusting the mask strap. CPAP ventilation sessions also proved challenging due to mask leakage, which often exceeded 5% of total flow. To reduce leakage, clinicians frequently had to tighten the mask straps further, which increased pressure on the patient’s skin. This quickly led to skin redness on the bridge of the nose during therapy, and in cases of prolonged non-invasive ventilation, skin ulcerations.
We identified the V2 NIV Face Mask as a potential solution to our clinical challenges due to its low-pressure seal, simple fitting procedure and user-friendly design. Following product training provided by Eakin Healthcare,
the mask was extensively evaluated within the clinic on a range of patients. After positive results, we explored additional applications, including using the mask with a straight connector during bronchoscopies. The mask performed effectively in these procedures and became a preferred option for bronchoscopies performed under CPAP NIV support.
Since implementing the V2 NIV Face Mask, the clinic has observed leakage levels consistently remaining below 5% during therapy. Because excessive strap tightening is no longer required, we’ve also observed a meaningful reduction in patient skin irritation and pressure-related skin damage. The improved connectivity and straightforward fitting procedure also contributed to greater clinician confidence during bronchoscopies performed under CPAP NIV support. Furthermore, our patients have reported improved comfort with the V2 NIV Face Mask, along with reduced obstruction to their field of vision compared with masks previously used within the clinic. Overall, the V2 NIV Face Mask has helped us experience improved patient compliance by providing a secure and comfortable fit, while simplifying handling for both patients and clinicians.
